Check the electrical box in the ceiling where the fixture is attached. Too many lights at table level can make the ceiling seem even higher. Most often these types of lights are recessed into the ceiling especially in high vaulted ceilings. You can then unclip the bulb from the wire.

The box must be compatible with your light fixture. To replace a ceiling light fixture follow these steps. You may find several pairs of wires in the ceiling box. Be sure that the box is securely attached to the building structure so it can support the weight of the fixture.

Use a circuit tester or turn off the power to the whole house to ensure that all the wires in the box are dead. If the box is loose tighten the screws that are holding it in place but don t overtighten. Some of these wires may be wired to different circuits than the fixture you re working on. Some recessed led light fixtures can be pulled directly out of the ceiling.

Light bulbs that are too high for you to reach commonly will not have globes or a shade. It is dangerous to install a ceiling fixture without this ground pathway. Turn off the power. The ground connection on a ceiling light fixture can vary depending on the type of fixture and ceiling box you have.

But large light fixtures especially large hanging chandelier fixtures are not cheap or easy to replace when they re installed 17 feet up in the air. High ceilings can add a sense of space and airiness to a room but can present challenges when you are adding light fixtures. If you want to replace most other interior light fixtures you just need a few tools and simple step ladder to get to the ceiling but with a heavy hanging fixture that s way up in the air.
