Sand the tiles with a hand orbital sander and 220 grain sandpaper.

A gritted paper like 220 won t scar the surface like grittier papers although much sandpaper will have to be used to get past the thick coating.
Use 60 or 80 grit for starters just to dull the edge or flatten the serrations if the tile has been nipped.
Hold the tools with gentle hands and inspect the edges regularly.

You need to be much more careful when you sand ceramic tiles with power tools because the tools will sand the tiles at a greater speed than when you do it by hand.
